Our Story

1938: Williamsburg Pottery Factory

In 1938, Jimmy Maloney founded Williamsburg Pottery with just a half-acre of land and a passion for craftsmanship. His roadside pottery stand grew into a 200-acre shopping destination, famous for its factory-direct prices and incredible variety. Jimmy’s pioneering spirit shaped modern discount retail long before outlet malls existed. Today, WPF continues his legacy—family-owned, value-driven, and proudly based in Williamsburg, Virginia.

1983: Oriental World Supplies Inc.

Founded by Peter Kao, OWS was at the forefront of global sourcing as Asia began to open up in the 1990s. Over the years, OWS established its own factories for ceramics, lighting, and woven goods across China and Vietnam. In the US, the company played a key role in helping retailers like Ollies, Dollar General, and Variety Wholesalers expand nationwide. Known for quality, flexibility, and competitive pricing, OWS is a trusted name in global sourcing.

OWS-WPF merges the decades of sourcing and retail experience. With in-house QA/QC teams, private-label services, and a U.S.-based showroom, we are built to serve the fast-changing needs of modern retail. Our proven track record with national chains speaks for itself—low MOQs, fast turnarounds, and high-volume reliability.

Meet the CEO

Peter Kao, a Taiwanese-born entrepreneur and global strategist, has built a legacy at the intersection of international commerce and community leadership—transforming decades of experience into a thriving enterprise that connects Asia’s manufacturing strength with America’s retail landscape.

Kao earned a B.A. in Law (5 Year Program) from National Taiwan University 1975 and Executive MBA, Finance and Marketing from the Armstrong Business College, SFSU-CA.

He worked as an Assistant Marketing Director for the Societe Nationale de Elf Aquitanine (The Elf Group) from 1976-1983. He managed international marketing initiatives in Asia and the Far East and facilitated high-level negotiations with senior-level executives and government officials. During the 1979 oil crisis, Peter was key in negotiating a steady supply of oil from the Middle East to the countries of the Pacific Rim.

In 1983, Peter started his own entity, Oriental World Supplies, Inc. The company manages overseas manufacturing and distribution. During the early years Peter was able to become a vendor for the largest retail market in Williamsburg, Virginia known as the Williamsburg Pottery.

Peter was recognized for his leadership, marketing, and operations skills whilst doing business with the Williamsburg Pottery and in 1992 earned the title of Executive Vice President. He also continues to manage the company and its 1200 acres of land holdings into its 88th year. Williamsburg Pottery and OWS merged in 2024 under his leadership and is dedicated to providing retailers with the best possible value.
